UP is one of India’s largest sugarcane-producing states with almost 4.5 million farmers directly dependent on the crop.
The government will increase the prices of sugarcane. A decision will be made in the coming days after the approval of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Dalal said, according to an official statement.

Assuring Centre's full assistance in solving the UP sugar crisis, Union Food Minister K V Thomas asked sugar mills and farmers not to "precipitate" the crisis.
SP Tulsian, chief executive officer, sptulsian.com, said the UP government will not like to set a precedent of giving cash subsidy either to the mill owners or to the farmers and already present inflation woes will prevent the Central government from providing any relief.
