"There is an urgent need for adequate regulation to curb predatory pricing and capital dumping in the ecosystem in the interest of co-existence of all players in the ecosystem," Ola's Chief Operating Officer Pranay Jivrajka told PTI over phone from Bengaluru.
There have been allegations that aggregators like Uber and Ola indulge in "predatory pricing" as they are backed by investor money.
To improve sustainability, Ola is slashing incentives to customers and drivers. The company says it is on track to become the first Indian profitable company in the taxi-aggregation space.
Consumers across India will now be able to book an Ola cab ahead of their doctor‘s appointments, directly from Practo app.
The move will help Ola to cash in further on the lucrative Delhi, Gurgaon and Noida routes which comprise a significant portion of the on-demand transportation market.
According to data collected by cab aggregator Ola, Kolkata and Bengaluru were among the slowest with average speeds of 17km/hr and 18 km/hr, respectively.
Ola has already initiated the loan scheme in Pune and Bengaluru and plans to partner with multiple finance partners in the next six months to make this facility available to drivers across the country, the company said in a release.
Under the partnership, Ola will team up with the state government to provide skill development for 50,000 men and women over the next five years, it said in a statement. It also spoke of introducing offerings like Ola Autos and Ola Share in the state in coming months.
The aggregator integrated a cloud telephony solution, which sends an encrypted number to the driver whenever a customer books a cab.
The proposed investment will encourage driver entrepreneurship and create employment opportunities in the state, Ola said in a statement. Currently, Ola has over 10,000 vehicles on its platform in Andhra Pradesh.
