Speaking to CNBC-TV18, Viju George of JPMorgan said that telecom players will be watching for Reliance Jio's launch, its pricing and implied value in the ARPU (average revenue per user) bundle.
Reliance Jio, which is gearing up to launch its 4G services, said that during the quarter, it extended its trial services to all LYF devices users under the Jio LYF Preview Offer.
"Achieving about 7 percent market share of the estimated 137 million smartphone sales in FY17 will mean sales of 10 million units. This could make LYF a USD 1 billion brand using an ASP (average selling price) of USD 100," CLSA said.
Data volumes have been declining for telecom operators like Bharti and Idea Cellular, and with this development, the analysts fear that the operators have to cut the volume even further to push up demand in light of Jio competition, reports Reema Tendulkar of CNBC-TV18, quoting sources.
