As the current chairman of India's telecom watchdog JS Sarma retires today, Rahul Khullar has been given the post of chairman at the Telecom Regulatory Body of India (TRAI).
Seeking to address the concerns of News Broadcasters, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) chief J S Sarma today by saying that "carriage fee" in the cable sector was expected to stay within a particular range and not reach astronomical figures.
Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal unveiled new norms for the telecom sector. JS Sarma, chairman of TRAI is glad that there is a greater clarity and decisions have been taken. According to him, the road ahead is clear. "I think that should augur well for the telecom sector," he adds.
The government has kick started the process of appointing a new chairperson to head the telecom regulatory authority of India.
"I believe that the sector has evolved to an extent where now auctions could be the method of allocation of spectrum," says TRAI chairman JS Sarma.
Telecom regulator Trai has asked leading telecom service providers, including Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and Idea, to justify their decision to hike mobile tariffs by up to 20%.
