Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar reacts to Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister's report on how the Hindu population between 1950-2013 has dipped 7.82% while the share of population of Muslims has increased from 9.84% to over 14%.
As against the common trend among South Asian countries where minority populations have shrunk alarmingly, in India the share of minorities has increased significantly, says Shamika Ravi.
The drop in the Hindu share of India's population below the psychologically significant 80 percent level to 79 percent could easily have been predicted, given demographic trends seen for over a century.
The real problem is that Census 2011 - like many before it - is a substantial piece of fiction. It has been computed with unsound methods and will not represent a true and fair picture of religious affiliations in India.
