The national capital's annual maximum temperature (the median of June month record from 1995 to 2014) stands at 41.93 degrees Celsius. It will leap to 45.97 degrees Celsius in the 2080-99 period and can go up to 48.19 degrees Celsius in "some extreme years", the NGO said in a report.

"Most state Discoms have failed to comply with existing RPO targets and do not seem to be serious about making the shift to clean energy.
"With India's Cabinet signalling readiness to ratify the Paris Agreement on climate change, Greenpeace India is highlighting the threat posed to these commitments as well as to the economy, in particular the energy and banking sectors by the unnecessary and unjustified plans for coal expansion.
Noting that a large role in worsening global climate change, Greenpeace India asked the power sector to think beyond coal and stop sustaining the momentum to prop up a "dying industry".
"It is clear that India needs an aggressive shift to clean energy now. There should be no delay in implementing the thermal power plant emission standards and halting the expansion of coal-based power," said Sunil Dahiya, Campaigner, Climate and Energy, Greenpeace India.
