Goa Mines and Geology Department has issued show-cause notices to around 100 mining firms for allegedly encroaching outside their mining leases, which has been pointed out in the Justice M B Shah Commission report on illegal iron ore mining.
Justice MB Shah, Former Supreme Court Judge from the Commission who is heading the enquiry the inspection of Goa mines says that the though the complete enquiry is pending, the huge profits by way of exports, incentivise illegal mining.
After Karnataka, there are now fears that a mining ban can be extended to Goa, as well. In an exclusive interview to CNBC-TV18, Justice MB Shah, former Supreme Court judge and head of the Shah Commission report, who completed the inspection at the Goa mines, says the report on the findings is all set come in the next 45 days.
