Ford Motor Co has shelved plans to produce a new compact car family designed mainly for emerging markets like India and China, industry sources said, reflecting disappointing sales of mainstream models in the world's fastest growing car markets.
The updated version comes with revitalised interiors, added safety equipment and convenience, along with more colour options, General Motors (GM) India said in a statement.
The luxury compact car comes with various features including six airbags, dynamic traction control, anti-lock braking system, brake assist and run-flat indicator, the company said in a statement.
The Celerio diesel powered by an 793cc engine offers a fuel economy of 27.62 kmpl and the model also marks the global launch of the DDiS 125, first diesel engine designed and developed by Suzuki Motor Corporation.
The Stingray will be powered by the 998 cc K Series engine and the company says the car will deliver a fuel efficiency of 20.51 km/litre of petrol.
The Verito Vibe will compete with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Swift, DZire and Honda Amaze. But apart from the Verito platform and the electric car E2O, the company has no plans to launch any other passenger car.
General Motors India's 'Spark' compact car was Tuesday declared the "Most Dependable Compact Car" and "Best Compact Car in Initial Quality 2010" under JD Power & Associate's India Automotive Quality Study and Vehicle Dependability Study for 2010.
