Special Judge Arun Bhardwaj also awarded two year imprisonment to former joint-Secretary in the Ministry of Coal (MoC), K S Kropha in the case and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000, while Gupta was asked to pay a fine of Rs one lakh.

Output at Coal India Ltd's Lalmatia mine could fall by about 30 percent this month after 18 miners were killed in an accident there, a senior company official told Reuters.
The miner is expected to achieve its 2016/17 production target of 575 million tonnes and aims to raise output to 1 billion tonnes by 2020, Susheel Kumar told television news channel CNBC-TV18 in an interview.

"There is no move to scale down Coal India production target. I had a discussion with Coal India (CIL) people. They would make it up by 31st of March. This year there has been unusual rains," Coal Secretary Anil Swarup told reporters here.
