The last time Karnataka saw a coalition government was in 2004.
It was a three-way battle between Congress, JD(S) and Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) in Karnataka elections.
But despite the coming in as the largest party, the BJP could end up not forming the government, as the Congress and JD(S) announced that it they would come together.
In a conversation with Moneycontrol, political analyst Gautam Machaiah talks about the previous experience that Karnataka had with a coalition government - when the BJP and JD(S) came together for an alliance -- and why it didn't work.
