Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy proposed to rename a road that houses the US Consulate General in the state after the 45th and 47th United States President, Donald Trump.
This move apparently aimed at grabbing global attention ahead of "Telangana Rising Global Summit". According to reports, the state government will write to the Union Ministry of External Affairs and the US Embassy, informing them about the plans.
Earlier this year, the CM, while addressing the annual US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) conclave in Delhi, had proposed naming important roads in Hyderabad after leading global corporations. According to NDTV, the list includes naming a major thoroughfare "Google Street" to acknowledge the tech giant's investment in the region.
Other global names under consideration are "Microsoft Road" and "Wipro Junction".
The upcoming Greenfield radial road, which connects to the Nehru Outer Ring Road at Raviryala in the city and the newly proposed Radial Ring Road will be named after the late industrialist, Padma Shri Ratan Tata. The state government earlier changed the name of the interchange in Raviryala to 'Tata Interchange.
What does BJP say?Union Minister and BJP leader Bandi Sanjay Kumar said Hyderabad should be renamed back to “Bhagyanagar".
"If the Congress government is so eager to change names, they might as well start with something that actually has history and meaning," he posted on X.
Reddy is renaming places after "whoever trends", he said.
“What a sad state of affairs we’re living in - one side has #Twittertillu busy making AI statues of KCR who’s very much alive, and on the other is Revanth Reddy renaming places after whoever trends. Meanwhile, the only party stepping out, questioning the government, and taking up real people's issues through MahaDharna is the BJP,” said Kumar.
