PM Modi, during his address, reaffirmed India’s enduring support for Namibia’s independence and expressed New Delhi’s commitment to partner in its journey toward Vision 2030.
Modi highlighted India’s solidarity with Namibia's liberation movement, noting that India advocated for South West Africa's independence even before gaining its own freedom. He recalled India’s support at the United Nations and its backing of the South West Africa People’s Organisation (SWAPO). “The people of India stood proudly with Namibia during your freedom struggle,” he said, pointing out that New Delhi hosted SWAPO’s first diplomatic office abroad.
Paying tribute to founding president Sam Nujoma and other freedom fighters, Modi described their efforts as deeply inspiring. “We honour the memory of the fighters of your freedom struggle,” he said.
He also recalled India’s role in peacekeeping efforts, noting that Indian Lt. Gen. Dewan Prem Chand had led the UN peacekeeping force in Namibia. “India is proud to have stood with you, not just in words but in action,” Modi added.
