At least six soldiers were injured in an accidental mine blast along the Line of Control in the Makri area of Bhawani sector, Nowshera Rajouri sub-division on Tuesday.

A Trinamool Congress leader and a party worker were shot at in West Bengal's Malda district on Tuesday, police said. The shoot-out occurred less than a fortnight after a TMC councillor was shot dead in the district, reported PTI. The incident took place in Kaliaganj area when the TMC leader and the party worker were present at a programme, organised for the inauguration of a road, a senior officer said.

A leopard was found dead after being trapped in a barbed wire fence surrounding a eucalyptus plantation in the Birampur forest area here, police said on Tuesday. The incident came to light on Monday when Garhshankar Forest Range Officer Rajpal Singh and Forest Guard Ramanpreet Kaur informed police about it, they said. Police registered a case in connection with the violation of the Wildlife Protection Act, 2022 following a complaint by Singh.(PTI)

An FIR has been filed by the returning officer against Delhi Chief Minister Atishi for violating the model code of conduct ahead of the Assembly elections. According to reports, the CM has been accused of using a government vehicle for personal purposes. The case came to light after a Public Works Department (PWD) vehicle was allegedly spotted delivering election campaign materials to an AAP office following the election announcement on January 7.

Five coaches of a passenger train from Villupuram to Puducherry derailed near Villupuram railway station. A major accident was averted as the train stopped immediately after a loud noise was heard, reported ANI. All passengers were safely evacuated from the train. Railway staff and engineers rushed to the site and are actively working to repair the derailed train. Railway staff worked and the route was cleared for other trains, authorities are investigating whether the incident was due to a technical fault or sabotage. The Villupuram Railway Police have begun an in-depth inquiry into the matter, said PRO Railway, Chennai.

Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Prashant Kumar on Monday said that around 10 million people have taken a dip in the sacred Sangam. "Till now, around 1 crore devotees have taken a holy dip in Sangam area on the first 'Amrit snan' day," DGP Kumar told ANI. He said that the police personnel remain deployed as the rush of devotees continues at Sangam and the police administration are surveilling the area via drones. No information about any mishap has been reported.

"Our officers and jawans are on duty, everything is under control. We are continuously monitoring the situation and all our senior officers are also in the Control Rooms. Amrit Snan is going on in a peaceful manner. Devotees are peacefully taking a holy dip at several places in the state on the occasion of Makar Sankranti...There are separate ghats for Akharas and separate ghats for the devotees where they are taking holy dips. We are using CCTVs, drones and underwater drones this time," said Uttar Pradesh DGP Prashant Kumar.

North Korea launched multiple missiles into its eastern waters on Tuesday, according to South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS).

The missiles, suspected to be short-range ballistic weapons, were fired from a northern inland region.
