Noida traffic police has introduced lane driving rules on three major roads to reduce traffic jams in the city. Drivers who violate lane driving rules will be fined in the targeted area.
These are the areas where the rule has beem imposed in the wake of drivers switching lanes abruptly:
- Charkha Roundabout near Amity University
- Gardens Galleria Mall to Film City
- Bird Feeding Point near Dalit Prerna Sthal
Why has Noida implemented ‘no lane changing zones’?
According to DCP (Traffic) Lakhan Singh Yadav, lane indiscipline is one of the biggest reasons for traffic jams in Noida. When drivers change lanes abruptly, it disrupts traffic flow, forcing other commuters to slow down or stop, increasing the risk of accidents.
To prevent this, Noida Traffic Police has placed clear signboards such as “Lane Change Zone Start” and “Lane Change Prohibited” nearly 100 meters before intersections. This gives drivers enough time to adjust their lanes beforehand.
What happens if you violate lane rules?
Under Section 119/177 of the Motor Vehicles Act, failing to follow lane discipline will result in a fine of Rs 2,000. However, repeated offenses could attract stricter penalties under Section 184, with fines going up to Rs 5,000 for dangerous driving.
What Noida Police will do to ensure compliance?
- Traffic police will monitor these areas from 8 am to 1 pm and 4 pm to 9 pm.
- Violators will be issued e-challans manually in the initial days.
- CCTVs will be installed for automatic detection and fines.
How can you avoid fines?
- Watch for signboards indicating the start of 'no-lane-change zones'.
- Pick your lane early before reaching road intersections.
- Avoid last-minute lane switching, especially at roundabouts.
- Sticking to your lane is now more important than ever to avoid hefty fines.
