The Election Commission on Tuesday again rebutted charges of EVM (Electronic Voting Machine) tampering, saying that there is no question of a virus or bug affecting the machines.
During a media briefing on the Delhi election schedule, chief election commissioner Rajiv Kumar said that rigging an EVM is not possible.
"There is no evidence of unreliability or any drawback in the EVM... There is no question of introducing a virus or bug in the EVM. There is no question of invalid votes in the EVM. No rigging is possible," he said.
Kumar said that High Courts as well as Supreme Court have continuously said this in different judgments over the years.
"EVMs are foolproof devices for counting. Allegations of tempering are baseless. We are speaking now because we don't speak when elections are on," he said.
Opposition leaders have often levelled allegations of EVM tampering after the results of assembly elections.
Recently, Shiv Sena's Sanjay Raut questioned the results of the Maharashtra as well as Haryana elections, hinting at EVM fraud.
