Muhammad Yunus, the chief adviser to Bangladesh's interim government, is set to meet the Prime Minister of Pakistan and other world leaders on the sidelines of the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), but not with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Bangladesh foreign ministry adviser Mohammed Touhid Hossain confirmed on Saturday that a meeting between Yunus and Modi was unlikely, as Modi would be in the US earlier than Yunus. However, Yunus is expected to have a bilateral meeting with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, during the UNGA.
Modi is currently on a three-day visit to the US for the Quad Summit hosted by President Joe Biden in Wilmington, as well as the Summit of the Future at the UNGA in New York.
Aside from Pakistan’s prime minister, Yunus has scheduled meetings with the prime ministers of the Netherlands and Nepal, the EU president, the US secretary of state, the UN Secretary-General, and other global leaders, according to Hossain. He also mentioned that many meeting arrangements are finalized at the last minute, so changes may occur.
