Police on Saturday arrested a man from kerela for giving his wife the triple talaq over the phone, reported PTI.
According to the police officials, Abdul Basith, a native of Mynagappally in the Kollam district, was taken into custody two days ago and placed under 14 days of judicial detention.
In addition to other allegations of abuse under BNS, Basith was booked under pertinent parts of the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act. He is currently in judicial custody at the Chavara sub-jail.
His 20-year-old wife, who lives in the Kollam district's Chavara, filed a complaint, which led to the arrest.
The accusation claims that Basith married her without telling anyone about his previous marriage.
Basith allegedly brought her to a rented home after their wedding because his first wife was remaining at his family home.
The woman confronted him after learning about his prior marriage, which resulted in mental and physical violence; the lawsuit said. Basith also threatened to marry another woman, further escalating issues between them.
Following a quarrel, the woman returned to her parents' home. On January 19, Basith reportedly called her and pronounced triple talaq over the phone, declaring that their relationship was over, the complaint told police.
