Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Sunday said India's first Vande Bharat sleeper train service will commence next month. The Union minister was at Bhavnagar terminus from where he virtually flagged off the Ayodhya Express, Rewa-Pune Express, and Jabalpur-Raipur Express, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh Chief Ministers Mohan Yadav and Vishnu Deo Sai respectively.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said, “Vande Bharat Sleeper train will be launched in September, and further added that Indian Railways has undergone a major transformation under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The work of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project is also advancing rapidly and will be commissioned soon, reducing travel time between the two cities to just 2 hours and 7 minutes.
"More than 34000 km of new railway tracks have been laid, with approx. 12 km of railway track being laid per day, which is the first time in the history of Indian Railways. 1300 stations are being redeveloped and transformed into world-class stations. Also, we are running new age trains such as Vande Bharat Express, Amrit Bharat Express, Namo Bharat Rapid Rail and soon Vande Bharat Sleeper Train will be introduced," Ashwani Vaishnaw said while addressing a gathering.

"The first bullet train from Mumbai to Ahmedabad will start very soon, and the work on the project is going on at a fast pace. When it starts running, the journey from Mumbai to Ahmedabad will take only two hours and seven minutes," Vaishnaw said. India's first bullet train between Mumbai and Ahmedabad will span 508 kilometres. It will start from the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) area in Mumbai, and connect to Gujarat's Vapi, Surat, Anand, Vadodara and Ahmedabad, running at a high speed of 320 km per hour.
The Union minister further spoke about trains introduced by the Modi government — Vande Bharat Express, Amrit Bharat Express, and Namo Bharat Express.
"Eight Amrit Bharat trains have been launched so far. They have features like Vande Bharat trains, but the fare is low. These trains have been constructed using new-age technology, and you will be surprised to hear the emotions expressed by passengers using these trains," he said.
Further, Railway Minister announced that a new train service from Porbandar to Rajkot via Wansjaliya and Jetalsar will be introduced very soon, enhancing connectivity in the region. A state-of-the-art coach maintenance facility costing Rs 135 crore will be developed at Ranavav station.
A new railway line between Saradiya and Wansjaliya has also been sanctioned, which has been a long pending demand. In Porbandar city, a new flyover will be constructed in lieu of Level Crossing (LC) No. 3 near Bhadrakali Gate to ease traffic congestion. Two Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals is also in the pipeline to be set up in Bhavnagar city to boost freight operations. Furthermore, a new port is being developed in Bhavnagar, and a modern container terminal is also in the anvil to connect Bhavnagar Port with major Indian as well as global ports, enabling nationwide cargo movement through containers.
Ashwani Vaishnaw also informed that several projects in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh are progressing at a fast pace.
