Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday told Opposition parties to face him instead of calling Narendra Modi amid several MPs demanding the PM’s presence in the Upper House.
“The brutal attack in Pahalgam by Pakistani terrorists was responded to sternly and decisively by India through Operation Sindoor. I am also responding to where is PM Modi (talking about opposition sloganeering). Face me, why do you want to call PM, you would be in more trouble if he comes, but they don’t understand," Shah said.
Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, said there was a demand from the Opposition that the PM should come to the House and give a reply. “If the PM doesn't come to the House despite being present in Parliament premises, then it is an insult to the House,” said Kharge.
Shah also said he had informed the House that the Prime Minister was present in his office after the Opposition kept making demands for a reply from the PM.
When Kharge said PM Modi’s absence from the discussions was disrespectful to the Rajya Sabha, Shah said that on several occasions, the Congress has not allowed the LoP to speak.
“The opposition’s demands are not fair. It was decided that anyone from the government can respond to the questions," Shah added.
As the opposition leaders walked out of the House, Shah said they cannot listen to the debate, as for so many years, they did not respond to terrorism in order to protect their vote bank. "...The entire nation is watching the Congress. Their priority is not the security of the country, but politics. Their aim is not to eliminate terrorism, but to protect their vote bank..." said Shah.
The Home Minister also said he would like to thank PM Modi for his foresight. "Whatever he said has now come true. Today, terrorist training camps, headquarters, and launch pads have been reduced to dust. Our Armed Forces have also eliminated their leaders," said Shah. "Earlier, we only kept sending dossiers, but Narendra Modi gave a reply to them (Pakistan) with airstrike and surgical strike...Khauf paida ho gaya..."
