Coronavirus India News highlights: Today is the 168th day since India implemented a nationwide lockdown, to help curb the novel coronavirus pandemic. So far, India has recorded 42,04,613 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 71,642 deaths. Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu have reported the highest number of cases. However, infections are rising rapidly in states like Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. Yet, India’s recovery rate continues to rise and now stands at 77.3 percent. 'Unlock 4.0' is underway. Coronavirus vaccine LIVE Updates | WHO says India in talks to join 'COVAX' vaccine scheme

The World Health Organization is in talks with India about joining the "COVAX" global vaccine allocation plan, a senior WHO adviser said on Monday.

"India is certainly eligible, like all countries in the world, to be part of the COVAX facility and discussions are ongoing in that regard," Bruce Aylward told a briefing in Geneva. "We would welcome Indian participation ...India has extensive experience (with vaccines)."

The WHO and the GAVI vaccine alliance are leading the COVAX facility, aimed at helping buy and distribute vaccination shots against the novel coronavirus fairly around the world.

Coronavirus in Pakistan LIVE Updates | Pakistan to begin reopening educational institutions next week 

Schools in Pakistan will begin reopening in phases from next week following a fall in new coronavirus case numbers, officials said, ending a long closure that led to exam cancellations and threw students' grades into chaos.

Higher education institutions and senior school classes will reopen on Sept. 15, class six till eight will open again on Sept. 23, and on Sept. 30 primary classes will reopen, Shafqat Mahmood, Federal Minister for Education, told a news conference.

Pakistan has recorded 298,903 cases of COVID-19 and nearly 6,345 deaths but has seen a slowing of numbers since June, when it recorded nearly 7,000 infections and 118 deaths in single day.

Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh today announced some relaxations in lockdown in urban areas, including opening of non-essential shops on Saturdays and relaxation in their timing from Monday to Saturday till 9 pm.Night curfew will be in place in all cities/towns now from 9:30 pm to 5 am, as per revised decision. In the wake of a spike in COVID-19cases in Mumbai, the civic body will be adding 250 ICU beds inits hospitals and other facilities in the next three days, an
official said today.

The official ofsaid these 250 ICU beds will be added to ensure that atleast 350 beds remain vacant all the time to deal with anysudden surge in number of patients.

He said around 4,800 beds are lying vacant underDCH/DCHCfacilities and another 6,200 COVID-19beds are availablein jumbo field hospitals set up in the metropolis.
