Exit Poll Results 2022 | BJP set to return to power with full majority in UP, say post-election surveys

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is all set to win the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections as almost all exit polls released on March 7 predicted it to emerge as the single largest party in the state by bagging anywhere between 222 and 326 seats in the 403-member assembly.

The polls predicted that though the Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party will increase its 2017 tally of 47, it will bag anywhere between 71 and 165 seats, well short of coming to power, this time.

Assembly Elections 2022 LIVE| Congress says open to post-poll alliance with non-BJP parties ahead of Goa poll results

With the date for the Goa Assembly poll results nearing, the Congress has said it is open to a post-poll alliance with parties other than the BJP to form the next government, if it does not get a majority on its own. Elections to the 40-member Goa Assembly were held on February 14 and the results would be declared on March 10. Talking to reporters on Sunday, All India Congress Committee's Goa desk in-charge Dinesh Gundu Rao said if his party falls short of the majority mark of 21, it is open to seeking the support of outfits like the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) to form government. The Congress had contested the election in alliance with the Goa Forward Party. Besides, the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC had tied-up with the MGP, Goa's oldest regional outfit, before the polls. Rao said after the final result is out, the Congress Legislature Party will waste no time in electing its leader. If the Congress gets majority, "we will stake claim to form government the same day", he said. The Congress had won 17 seats in the 2017 state Assembly elections, while the BJP bagged 13. But, the saffron party formed government by quickly forging an alliance with some other parties and independents. Over the last five years, a number of Congress MLAs quit the party and its strength in the House was reduced to two.

UP Assembly Elections 2022 LIVE| People will vote only for BJP, no contest in Varanasi South: UP minister Neelkanth Tiwari

Speaking to ANI after casting his vote, Tiwari said, "There is no fierce battle between the SP and the BJP on the Varanasi South seat. The Opposition has tried all tactics. They have tried the SP-BSP alliance and the Congress-SP alliance in the past. They also fielded a big leader from here, who has been a three-time MP." He said that the people here shared a "special bond" with the Prime Minister. Notably, Varanasi is the Prime Minister's Parliamentary constituency. UP Assembly Elections 2022 LIVE| For BJP it's a goldmine, for Congress it's a minefield

Based on opinion polls, it is a bipolar contest between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Samajwadi Party (SP). It maybe only rhetorical causticness, but SP leader Akhilesh Yadav has dismissed the Congress with contemptuous nonchalance; it could get zero seats, he mocked. But Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has probably played a smart card; she is rebuilding a battered Congress for Lok Sabha 2024. Realistically, she probably knows that the assembly elections are just a resurrection strategy. Read More
