Extending his support to the villagers protesting against the move to set up a new airport in Parandur in Ekanapuram, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay arrived at the site, where party functionaries, his fans, and villagers had gathered in large numbers.
According to DT Next, TVK chief Vijay alleged that the DMK-led Tamil Nadu ruling government was eyeing gains from the airport project, saying that people understood everything.
He questioned why the DMK government was opposing the tungsten project but supporting the airport project.
He accused the DMK government of being "anti-people" and trying to bring the airport to the region by destroying 90 percent of farmlands and waterbodies.
Assuring his support to the farmers, Vijay said that his party would not hesitate to take up a legal fight against the Parandur airport project. Announcing the commencement of his “field politics” with the blessings of the farmers, Vijay said, “Farmers are most important to the country.”
Tamil Nadu Congress Committee President K Selvaperunthagai said that Vijay’s visit to Parandur would not have any impact.
There were intensive police checkpoints at the Parandur-Kancheepuram junction.
