Leaders of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and the Opposition Aam Aadmi Party were locked in a war of words over the admissions given to 10 Rohingya children in state-run schools on the orders of the Supreme Court.
Terming the development as "BJP's hypocrisy", AAP MLA Anil Jha said that the BJP-ruled government in the capita had "robbed Delhi's children of their rights".
"Information has surfaced regarding the admission of approximately 10 Rohingya children in schools in Karawal Nagar, Delhi. BJP leaders repeatedly label them as Bangladeshi infiltrators, yet Rohingya students are being admitted to Delhi schools," the AAP MLA said in a press conference.
The issue of the presence of Rohingyas in Delhi was among major issues raised by the BJP in the run-up to the polls in the capital. While the BJP had accused the AAP of practicing "politics of appeasement" by allowing Roingyas in the capital, the AAP had hit back and accused the BJP saffron party of raising the issue in order to polarize society and create divisions for political gains.
Responding to the latest attack by AAP, the BJP said that the Opposition party was misleading people.
"The BJP government came to power on February 20, and the order for the admission of the children… was issued by the Honourable Supreme Court in response to a petition filed by lawyer Ashok Agarwal in December 2024," Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor said.
