The Mahayuti alliance, which is led by the Bharatiya Janata Party and includes Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar's NCP, emerged victorious in the 2024 Maharashtra MLC elections after registering a disappointing performance in the Lok Sabha elections, the results of which were declared last month.

All five BJP candidates, and the two candidates each nominated by the Shinde faction of Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar's faction of NCP won the MLC polls.

Sadabhau Khot of the Bharatiya Janata Party has won. Currently, Milind Narvekar and Jayant Patil are fighting for the last seat.

Nine out of the 12 candidates who were in the fray for the 11 seats of the upper house of the Maharashtra legislature.

Currently, Milind Narvekar, Jayant Patil, and Sadabhau Khot are fighting for the two remaining seats.

Amid threat of cross-voting, polling for the biennial elections to 11 seats in the Maharashtra Legislative Council concluded at the Vidhan Bhavan Complex on Friday afternoon.

Voting was held between 9 am and 4 pm, officials said. The votes were taken up for counting after 5 pm and the results are expected in the evening, they said.

There are 12 candidates in the fray for the 11 seats in the upper house of the state legislature where the 274 current members of the legislative assembly form the electoral college.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Friday said allowing BJP MLA Ganpat Gaikwad, who is in judicial custody in a shooting case, to vote in the Maharashtra legislative council polls would amount to misuse of power.

The Congress had also urged the returning officer of the biennial elections not to allow Gaikwad, accused of opening fire at a Shiv Sena leader inside a police station, to cast his vote.

Talking to reporters, Raut cited that in the last legislative council polls, the then NCP MLAs Anil Deshmukh and Nawab Malik were not allowed to vote.

AICC in-charge Ramesh Chennithala and Leader of Opposition Vijay Wadettiwar also participated. The Congress, NCP (SP), and Shiv Sena (UBT) are part of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance. PWP candidate Jayant Patil and Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate Milind Narvekar were present. Congress has re-nominated Pradnya Satav, with 14 extra votes after meeting her quota.
