State governments are undertaking Covid-19 preparedness drills at hospitals and some such as Karnataka have made usage of masks in public and closed spaces mandatory again. Airline have also been asked to ensure Covid appropriate behaviour.

Over 11,000 oxygen plants are functional and nearly 2.8 lakh isolation beds are available in over 20,000 health facilities across the country where mock drills were conducted on Tuesday to check the operational readiness to deal with Covid amid a surge in cases in some countries, officials said.
The Centre had asked states and Union Territories to conduct the drill as part of precautionary measures following an increase in Covid cases in China and other countries.
According to officials, 20,021 facilities, including 15,424 government ones conducted the exercise across 37 states and UTs. Of the total 3,37,710 isolation beds across these facilities,2,79,202 are functional. (PTI)
Maharashtra reported 36 new coronavirus positive cases on Wednesday taking the overall infection tally to 81,36,588, the health department said.
The death toll rose to 1,48,416 with one fatality in the last 24 hours.
Maharashtra had reported 26 new COVID-19 cases and zero fresh fatality on Tuesday.
With 13,338 swab samples tested in the last 24 hours, the number of COVID-19 tests conducted across the state so far rose to 8,58,90,128. (PTI)

The Serum Institute of India has offered two crore doses of Covishield vaccine to the central government free of cost amid a rise in Covid-19 cases in some countries, official sources said on Wednesday. According to an official source, Prakash Kumar Singh, Director of Government and Regulatory Affairs at the Serum Institute, has written to the Health Ministry offering the doses worth Rs 410 crore free of cost.
-Eleven tourists from Myanmar, isolated at the Safdarjung Hospital earlier this week after one of them tested Covid positive at the IGI Airport here, have turned out to be negative and are being discharged, officials said on Wednesday.
-"A group of 11 tourists from Myanmar was brought to the hospital from the airport on Sunday. They were kept in the isolation ward. Now, all of them have tested negative and are being discharged," a senior doctor said.Samples taken from the person who tested positive at the airport have been sent for genome sequencing," the doctor said.

- Researchers have detected an anti-inflammatory pattern in long Covid patients, which helps in understanding better what causes fatigue in patients with long term symptoms of the disease.
- The researchers at the University of Vienna, Austria, have now presented new evidence of triggers for fatigue following SARS-COV-2 infection. The team of researchers showed that an exaggerated anti-inflammatory response is likely to be responsible for long Covid syndrome (LCS).
-The study has been published in "iScience".
- With the addition of six new cases of coronavirus, the tally of infections in Mumbai reached 11,55,104 on Tuesday, an official from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.
- At least seven patients recovered from the infection during the day, taking the count of recoveries to 11,35,310, while the toll remained unchanged at 19,746, he said on December 27.
-As per a bulletin issued by the civic body, the city is left with 48 active COVID-19 cases. The average doubling rate of cases is at 1,16,134 days, while the recovery rate stands at 98.3 per cent, it said.
- A single dose of iNCOVACC, the intranasal vaccine from Bharat Biotech that was approved as a part of the immunisation programme last week against the Covid-19 pandemic is priced at Rs 800 each, apart from the Goods and Services Tax for private hospitals. Slots for the same can now be booked on the CoWin portal.
- The nasal vaccine will be ready for circulation to the public from the fourth week of January.
- For mass procurement of the vaccine by the Centre as well as the state, Incovacc will be sold at a price of Rs 325 per dose.
- The vaccine is being rolled out as a booster dose for people aged 18 and above.
- iNCOVACC is the world’s very first intranasal vaccine for Covid-19 that has received approval for the primary two-dose schedule, as well as a heterogeneous booster dose, Bharat Biotech said.
