    Rita Sahu to be BJD candidate for Bijepur assembly seat

    The announcement was made amidst speculation that the party may field someone other than the late Congress MLA's widow.

    Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today named late Congress MLA Subal Sahu’s wife Rita Sahu as the official candidate of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) for the Bijepur Assembly bypoll.

    The announcement was made amidst speculation that the party may field some one other than the late Congress MLA's widow.

    Rita Sahu and her family members comprising her son Sumit had joined the BJD on September 23.

    The Bijepur constituency fell vacant after the demise of three-time Congress MLA Subal Sahu.

    The date for the by-poll is, however, yet to be announced.
