Mumbai, Feb 6 (PTI) The Maharashtra state cabinet today in a meeting decided that a former secretary-level official would head the proposed state cooperation election authority. The tenure of the official would be three years and could be extended by another two years, official sources said. The government has so far not named the first Commissioner of the new Authority, which would conduct elections of all cooperative societies in the state. The state cabinet last month approved major amendments to the Maharashtra Cooperative Societies Act, 1960. The amendments are meant to align the Act with the 97th Constitution (Amendment) Act, which recognises the formation of societies as a fundamental right. PTI VT KRK HKR PTP
