Bail to 21 persons accused in attack on Dalit colonies

Dharmapuri, Feb 8 (PTI): A local court today granted bail to 21 persons arrested in connection with the attack on three Dalit colonies last year. Petitioners' counsels said the Dharmapuri Judicial Magistrate Court-2 had already granted bail to all 92 arrested on November 8 2012, who were released under 167 (II)a(I) of CrPC All the arrested persons who were lodged in Salem and Sankiri jails were released today. Subsequently, further petitions were submitted before the JM-2 court seeking bail, which came up for hearing today. Sources said the bail orders were received from the Court and would be submitted to Salem Central prison tomorrow. The bail to 21 persons would be released tomorrow and they should also affix signatures before the CB-CID police office, Dharmpuri until further orders, they added. On November 7 2012, a mob of caste Hindus had torched 285 huts in three Dalit colonies in Dharmapuri district, after a man belonging to Vanniyar caste committed suicide upset over his daughter marrying a Dalit boy.
