Vodafone India and Idea Cellular will likely keep the two brands separate and not rush into creating a new brand after their merger, The Economic Times reports.
"The company name may be merged, but there will be separate brands for urban and rural customers," a source told the paper.
"For the urban customers, post-paid offers will come with a particular branding, and for a deeper reach, there will be a separate one," the source added.
Vodafone has a stronger presence in urban areas, while Idea has deeper penetration in rural regions.
The proposed name for the merged entity is Vodafone Idea Ltd and it will be listed.
