CLOSING BELL: Sensex closes 455 points higher, Nifty above 25,000; Auto and Metal stocks lead gains
Stock Market Today | Market Comments by Hrishikesh Yedve, AVP Technical and Derivatives Research, Asit C Mehta Investment Intermediates
Hrishikesh Yedve, AVP Technical and Derivatives Research, Asit C Mehta Investment Intermediates (A Pantomath Group Company) :
Nifty opened on a positive note, witnessed strong buying interest, and ultimately settled on a positive note at 25,001. The volatility index, India VIX, surged by 4.29% to 18.02, indicating a rise in market volatility.
Technically, Nifty formed a bullish candle on the daily chart, indicating strength. However, the index is still placed near the psychological resistance level of 25,000. A sustainable move above 25,000 could drive the Nifty towards 25,200–25,250 levels in the short term. On the downside, 21-Day Exponential Moving Average (21-DEMA) support is placed near 24,530. As long as the index holds above this level, a buy-on-dips strategy should be adopted.
The Bank Nifty index opened on a positive note, witnessed buying interest, and finally settled on a positive note at 55,572. Technically, the Bank Nifty index on the daily chart formed a green candle with both-side shadow, indicating indecision. On the upside, the index is facing resistance near 56,000–56,100 levels. A sustained move above this level could trigger a fresh breakout, which will drive the index towards 57,000–57,500 levels. On the downside, 21-DEMA support is placed near 54,720. As long as the index remains above this level, it is likely to continue its bullish momentum.
Stock Market Today | Market Commentary by Siddhartha Khemka, Head - Research, Wealth Management, Motilal Oswal Financial Services
Siddhartha Khemka, Head - Research, Wealth Management, Motilal Oswal Financial Services:
Indian equities gained for the second consecutive session, with Nifty50 rising 148 points(+0.6%) to reach the 25,000 mark. Market sentiments were buoyed by positive global cues after US President Trump deferred the proposed 50% tariffs on the European Union till July’25. Additionally, investor optimism was boosted by NITI Aayog’s update on India surpassing Japan to become the fourth-largest economy globally. The broader market witnessed continued buying interest, with Nifty Midcap100 and Smallcap100 gaining 0.7% and 0.4% respectively. On the sectoral front, Auto and IT indices were the top performers, rising over 1% each. The Nifty India Defence index extended gains for the third consecutive day, supported by expectation of strong order-book for defence manufacturers amidst sustained demand. Fertilizer, Agrochemical, FMCG, Auto and rural finance sectors would remain in focus due to the early onset of the monsoon and forecasts of above-average rainfall. Both FIIs and DIIs were net buyers of over Rs2,000 collectively on May 23rd, supporting the firm market trend. The RBI announced a record dividend of Rs2.69 lakh crore to the central government for FY25, up 27% from Rs2.1 lakh crore in FY24. The dividend would significantly boost the government's finances and help in maintaining the fiscal deficit target for FY26. The dollar index has been falling for three consecutive sessions, trading near its one-month low levels which could increase foreign capital inflow in emerging markets like India. Overall, we expect Indian equities to continue its gradual up-move on the back of strong domestic macros and supportive global market trends.

Sensex Today| RBI May Prefer FX Swaps Over OMOs for Liquidity Infusion: Nomura
The Reserve Bank of India is likely to opt for foreign-exchange (FX) swaps rather than open market operations (OMOs) as a tool for liquidity infusion, according to brokerage Nomura. In a note, strategist Nathan Sribalasundaram stated that this shift means there is unlikely to be any significant buying in the 10-year segment of the yield curve through OMO auctions. As a result, Nomura has turned more neutral on the 10-year part of the curve, having recently booked profits on its long position.
The brokerage expects the yield curve to steepen, with the 5s10s spread anticipated to trade around 50 basis points. Nomura continues to recommend a long position in front-end government bonds, targeting a 5.75% yield on the 6.75% 2029 bond by end-June. Additionally, Sribalasundaram noted that the larger RBI dividend will eventually flow into the bond market, benefiting banks that are already underweight on statutory liquidity ratio (SLR) holdings.
Sensex Today| Motilal Oswal Initiates Coverage on Hexaware Technologies with a buy rating
Motilal Oswal has initiated coverage on Hexaware Technologies (HEXT) with a BUY rating, citing its strategic partnerships, differentiated capabilities, and well-diversified revenue mix as key strengths. While the near-term outlook remains uncertain amid evolving discretionary tech spending—especially in sectors like U.S. Banking, Healthcare, and Hi-Tech—Hexaware’s strong execution, vendor consolidation wins, and traction with mid-tier accounts offer resilience.
The brokerage values the stock at 32x Mar’27E EPS, reflecting a 19% upside potential with a target price of INR 950, applying a 15% discount to Coforge’s P/E multiple due to relative scale differences.

Sensex Today| Views from Akshay Chinchalkar, Head of Research, Axis Securities
The Nifty rallied a percent on Friday, putting some short-term nervousness to rest. Technically speaking, an important swing low seems to have been formed at 24462 in a classic retest of a resistance-turned-support area, but bulls need to break through the 24946 - 24974 area to get an all-clear. Should this happen, the next hurdle zone lies between 25000 and 25436.
