The pain of the sharp increase of oil prices triggered by mass protest and turmoil in a number of Middle East countries is felt as far as in Texas and other cities around America.

What was under USD 3 has just skyrocketed up to USD 3.19, USD 3.20, USD 3.29, up 30 cents in the past month.

The cheapest gas in the Texas state right now is in San Antonio; they're paying about USD 3.04 per gallon. One year ago, a gallon of gas in Texas averaged out to about USD 2.70. Right now the average sits at USD 3.35.

AAA of Texas said unrest in Libya is one reason for rising prices. It's North Africa's second largest supplier of oil, and a shut off or reduction could hurt world supplies.

Back in October 2008, gas prices in Texas shot up to USD 4.
