India not late in AI race, will be among first nations to harness its power: Ashwini Vaishnaw

Vaishnaw, however, warned that bias in AI can be very dangerous and can play out negatively.

Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Wednesday said that India is not late in the race to develop Artificial Intelligence (AI) and will be among the first nations to harness its powers.

"We are very much in the race,. We will be among the top few countries who will be able to harness its powers," Vaishnaw said in an interation with Moneycontrol's Nalin Mehta and Chandra Srikanth at the News18 Rising Bharat Summit in New Delhi.

Vaishnaw, however, warned that bias in AI can be very dangerous.

"It can play out very negatively."

Vaishnaw also said that India is on track to develop the first indigenous chip, which should be ready by September this year.
