Rules for the Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDPA) are expected within a month, I&B Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on August 19.

Rules for the Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDPA) are expected within a month, I&B Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw told media persons on August 19.

"The framework is ready and the draft rules are expected to be released within a month," Vaishnaw told reporters, confirming that the framework of DPDP Act is now complete, with the work flow which includes how to file complaints, taking up appeals and other details.

The DPDP Act was passed by the Parliament nearly a year ago. However, India's first legislation, which brings safeguards to prevent personal data breaches has still not yet been implemented as many provisions require additional clauses and rules.

It was widely being reported that the government has given a green light to the rules for public consultation, likely in August.

The DPDP Act provides specializes protections for children and persons with disabilities. The Act defines a child as someone below the age of 18 and Section 9 of the Act mandates that such children have to be verified and parental consent will be required before processing the data of a minor.
