Tata Motors showed good growth in May sales data. The country's largest commercial vehicle maker sold 39,496 units in May, a growth of 5 percent over 37,538 units sold in the corresponding period of last year.
Domestic sales of Tata Motors' commercial and passenger vehicles remained flat at 34,818 units in May while exports grew by 47 percent year-on-year to 4,678 units, Tata Motors said in its filing.
Passenger vehicle sales climbed 21 percent at 11,138 units and medium & heavy commercial vehicle sales jumped 17 percent to 10,788 units in May compared to the year-ago period.
Bajaj Auto sales rise M-o-M
Bajaj Auto's total sales in May dropped 2 percent year-on-year (up 2.7 percent month-on-month) to 3.45 lakh units but its exports grew by 2 percent (down 1.9 percent M-o-M ) to 1.59 lakh units.
The company said motorcycle sales declined 4 percent to 3.02 lakh units in May compared to 3.13 lakh units sold in the year-ago period but on month-on-month basis the same increased by 5.6 percent.
3-wheeler sales climbed 13.4 percent year-on-year (down 13.7 percent M-o-M) to 43,576 units in the month gone by.
Exports lift TVS Motor's sales
TVS Motor's sales increased by 6 percent to 2.2 lakh units in May compared to 2.07 lakh units sold in the year-ago period.
The company said exports grew by 22 percent year-on-year to 43,595 units in the month gone by. 2-wheeler sales rose by 7 percent to 2.1 lakh units while 3-wheeler sales fell by 1.3 percent to 9,236 units during the same period.
Hero Motocorp sales drop
India's largest two-wheeler maker Hero Motocorp sold 5.7 lakh units in May, down 5 percent compared to 6 lakh units sold in the corresponding period of last year.
Maruti sales strong
India's largest car maker Maruti Suzuki sold 1,14,825 units in May, a growth of 13.8 percent compared to 1,00,925 units sold in the year-ago period, driven by exports as well as domestic sales growth.
Export during the same period grew by 20.3 percent to 12,466 units and domestic sales rose by 13 percent to 1,02,359 units, Maruti said in its filing.
Passenger cars business reported a 14.3 percent growth in May. Mini (Alto, WagonR), Super Compact (Dzire Tour) and mid size cars (SX4, Ciaz) supported domestic sales growth. Alto and WagonR sales increased by 20.6 percent in May compared to the corresponding period of last fiscal.
Dzire Tour sales jumped 257.6 percent year-on-year to 3,190 units and SX4 & Ciaz (that launched in October 2014) saw 4042.1 percent increase in sales at 5,012 units.
However, Compact cars (Swift, Ritz, Celerio and Dzire) sales degrew by 5.7 percent year-on-year to 41,926 units in the month gone by.
Utility vehicles and vans sales went up by 6 percent and 7.7 percent in May compared to the year-ago period.
M&M tractor sales dismal
Mahindra & Mahindra said domestic tractor sales fell 21 percent to 18,245 units in May against 23,132 units in the same month last year while tractor exports grew by 25 percent to 1,012 units during the same period.
"For the tractor industry, the upcoming monsoon will be the primary trigger and we are hopeful of a good monsoon, which will have a positive impact on pent up demand thereby leading to improved market sentiments," said Harish Chavan, chief operating officer, farm division, M&M.
Apart from tractors, M&M sold 36,706 units of passenger & commercial vehicles and three-wheelers in May, down 3 percent compared to 37,869 units in the year-ago period.
Auto sector division was impacted majorly by lower domestic sales of utility vehicles, cars & vans and light commercial vehicle (LCV) with less than 3.5 tonne capacity. However, LCV with more than 3.5 tonne capacity, medium & heavy commercial vehicle (up 44 percent year-on-year to 343 units) and 3-wheeler reported higher sales growth in May.
Total domestic sales fell by 6 percent year-on-year to 33,369 units while exports grew by 41 percent to 3,337 units in May.
Escorts disappoints
Escorts said its agri machinery sales in May dropped 16.4 percent to 4,841 tractors compared to 5,794 units sold in the corresponding month of previous month, dented by weak domestic sales growth.
Strong sales data by Ashok Leyland
Ashok Leyland has reported a massive 40 percent jump in May sales, driven by MHCV as well as LCV segments. The country's second largest commercial vehicle maker sold 9,294 units in May compared to 6,632 units in the same period last year.
Medium and heavy commercial vehicle sales climbed 41 percent year-on-year to 6,892 units and light commercial vehicle (Dost) sales jumped 37 percent to 2,402 units during the same period.
Strength in Royal Enfield sales
Eicher Motors continued to report strong sales growth even at high base. It sold 35,354 units of Royal Enfield in May, a growth of 41 percent compared to 25,010 units in the corresponding period of last year.
Sales of models with more than 350cc engine capacity increased by 56 percent year-on-year to 4,127 units and models with engine capacity upto 350cc rose by 40 percent to 31,227 units, Eicher said in its filing.
Export sales grew by 48 percent to 739 units in May 2015 against 501 units in May 2014, it added.
Meanwhile, commercial vehicle sales of the company increased by 7.6 percent to 4,035 units in May compared to 3,750 units in the same month last year.
Atul Auto
Three-wheeler manufacturer Atul Auto sold 3,006 units in May, up 7.05 percent compared to 2,808 units in the corresponding month of previous year.
