Govt asks BHEL to take initiatives for power sector

Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises Minister Anant Geete asked Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) to step up its activities in diversification areas like solar and transportation, in a big way to address the slowdown in power sector.

The minister reviewed the performance and the future readiness of the company.

"While BHEL is gearing up for the future to face the upcoming challenges, he advised the company to step up its activities in diversification areas like solar and transportation, in a big way to address the slowdown in power sector," the company said in a statement.

The minister was briefed about the performance trends of the company, initiatives taken for enhancing competitiveness and building R&D capabilities, it said.

"Apart from the new initiatives and strategies for growth, the challenges being faced by the company in the prevailing subdued business environment were also explained," it said.

The minister commended the company's leadership role on attaining an all-time high commissioning/synchronization of 15,059 MW of power generating equipment during the last year.
