IT to play key role in quest for green economy: Ramesh

IT industry would have a key role to play in the country's pursuit towards green economy, Union Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh said.

Just as India was having leadership role in IT sector, the country can be world leaders in green technology and IT would have an important role in that, he told reporters here.

"I think complementarity between IT and green technology is very close...IT industry has great capability and the resources to contribute to India becoming a world leader in green technology", Ramesh said.
In India''s pursuit towards becoming a green economy, IT would play a very important role, he added.

Ramesh recalled that when he was the Minister of State for Power, he had commissioned Nandan M Nilekani (former Infosys official who now heads the UID project) and he had given a detailed report on the issue of smart grids and electricity distribution based on massive use of IT.
