Tata Motors' sales in September slipped 4% year-on-year to 75,773 units due to sluggish demand for heavy trucks and passenger vehicles, although there was strong demand for the Nano car.The company's domestic sales last month were down 3% to 70,332 units, and exports slipped 12% to 5,441 units. The India's largest CV maker sold 48,680 trucks and buses in the domestic market, up 5% from a year ago. While LCV sales rose 19% to 33,393 units, M&HCV sales were down 16% to 15,287 units.In the passenger vehicle segment, total sales fell 18% last month to 21,652 units. Sales of the Indica hatchback were down 23% to 7,936 units, while that of Indigo sedan tumbled 52% to 3,706 units. Demand for the Nano, however, was robust, with sales rising 87% to 5,491 units in September.Sales of Tata Motors' utility vehicles -- Sumo, Safari, Aria and Venture -- fell 15% to 4,519 units. For the first six months of this financial year, its total sales are up 3% to 4,09,898 units, with domestic CV sales up 3% and passenger vehicle sales rising 4%.Tata Motors shares Monday closed at Rs 274.70, up 2.7% from previous close.
