Vodafone Essar slams TRAI's 2G pricing proposals

Vodafone Essar, India's third-largest mobile carrier and controlled by Vodafone said in a statement on Wednesday second-generation mobile spectrum pricing proposals by The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) were "flawed, illogical" and "discriminatory" against older operators.

The TRAI has recommended steep increase in prices of 2G spectrum that would also see companies holding more than 6.2 mega hertz spectrum paying a one-time fee for that.

Vodafone Essar estimated its potential one-time payout would be Rs 1,743 crore (USD 382 million) and that bigger rival Bharti Airtel will have to pay Rs 4,000 crore. Reliance Communications' payout would be Rs 70 crore, the statement added.
