State goes to polls on November 30. It has 40 assembly constituencies and approximately 8.52 lakh electors. The election results will be out on December 3.

To encourage informed voting, the CEC said, all the information including “criminal antecedents” of the candidates, if any, is available on the KYC App of ECI and https://affidavit.eci.gov.in portal.

The assembly elections in J&K will be held at the right time, taking security into consideration, and a decision will be made accordingly, said the CEC

CEC Rajiv Kumar highlighted the role of cVIGIL app for election-related grievance redressal saying complaints filed through the app would receive prompt attention, and appropriate actions would be taken.

The number of male voters in the five poll-bound states stands more than women voters at 8.24 crore, female voters exceed male voters in Chhattisgarh and Mizoram and equal in Telangana.

In a setback for the ruling BRS in Telangana, two of its senior leaders, one MLC and a sitting legislator, have left the party. Ajmeera Rekha, the legislator from Khanapur, resigned from the party while MLC Kasireddy Narayana Reddy joined the Congress party in the presence of AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge in the national capital. Rekha was unhappy with the party as she was denied a ticket to contest the forthcoming assembly polls.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel announced hike in support price for procuring 'kodo' and 'kutki' millets ahead of Assembly polls in the state. The move will benefit farmers of the state's tribal region where these millets are traditionally grown.

Rajasthan will create three new districts in the state: Malpura, Sujangarh, and Kuchman City. This development comes ahead of Assembly elections in the state, bringing the total number of districts in Rajasthan to 53.

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said his government has brought big schemes like the Chiranjeevi Health Insurance and the Urban Employment Guarantee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi should say when the Centre would implement those in the country. In a public meeting, Modi said if the BJP came to power in Rajasthan, it would not stop welfare schemes started by the Congress in Rajasthan.

Launched by BJP government this March, the scheme promises Rs 1,000 per month to women between 23 to 60 years of age, with a total outlay of Rs 8,000 crore. It is manned by networks of women volunteers working at the village and ward levels.

Ahead of the dates for assembly elections in five states, the Election Commission held a meeting of observers with Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar asking them to ensure that the menace of money power is controlled thoroughly. The meeting of EC's police, general and expenditure observers was aimed at streamlining strategy to ensure that the model code is implemented effectively and money and muscle power does not disturb the level playing field.

Madhya Pradesh BJP leader Yashodhara Raje Scindia said she will not contest election from the Shivpuri Assembly seat. "I had resolved earlier that I was not going to contest elections. Along with everyone, I want to thank you all, in a way this is my 'goodbye'. I have always tried to follow the footsteps of my mother, Rajmata Raje Scindia."

Freebies being doled out by the Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan ahead of the assembly polls are now under Supreme Court scrutiny, which sought responses from the two states, the Centre and the Election Commission on a PIL alleging misuse of public money

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi said if her party retains power in Chhattisgarh after the upcoming assembly polls, a caste census will be carried out in the state on the lines of a similar exercise conducted in Bihar.

A caste census is most likely to dominate the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting today as EC prepares to announce dates for Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Mizoram elections. The party is expected to firm the pitch for a nationwide caste census and its implications.

The term of Bhupesh Baghel’s government in the 90-member Chhattisgarh assembly ends on January 3. The state has 1.97 crore voters and of it over 4.43 lakh are first time voters.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan's term ends in January 6. The state has a 230-member Assembly and nearly 5.52 crore voters. The state has more than 18.86 lakh first time voters.

Rajasthan govt's term ends on on January 14. Of 200 seats in the state, 141 are general while 25 belong to the Scheduled Tribe (ST) and 34 to the Scheduled Caste (SC) categories. The state has 5.25 crore voters.
In the 2018 elections, the total turnout was 74.71% in which females outperformed males (73.83%) with 74.68% voting.
