Mohanlal’s highly anticipated film L2: Empuraan, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, has made a thunderous debut at the box office. The film, which hit theaters on March 27, has already shattered records, raking in an impressive Rs 22 crore across India on its opening day. This marks the biggest-ever opening for a Malayalam film, more than doubling the previous record.

According to early estimates from Sacnilk, the Malayalam version alone contributed Rs 19.45 crore, while the Telugu version brought in Rs 1.2 crore. The Tamil and Hindi versions added Rs 0.8 crore and Rs 0.5 crore, respectively, while the Kannada version recorded Rs 0.05 crore. The film's phenomenal start highlights its massive appeal across different linguistic markets.

L2: Empuraan has witnessed an extraordinary response in theaters, boasting an overall 61.02% occupancy for its Malayalam shows on its opening day. The film saw a staggering 97.50% occupancy in Kochi, making it the highest in the state, followed by 93.25% in Kollam and 92.25% in Kozhikode.

Viewership remained consistently strong throughout the day, with morning shows recording 63.32% occupancy, followed by 54.32% in the afternoon, a rise to 60.43% in the evening, and peaking at 66.00% for night shows. The overwhelming audience turnout highlights the film’s massive appeal and the fervor surrounding Mohanlal’s much-awaited sequel.

L2: Empuraan, the highly anticipated sequel to Lucifer (2019), marks the second chapter in an ambitious trilogy. This installment delves deeper into socio-political themes, with Mohanlal reprising his powerful role at the heart of the narrative. The film boasts an ensemble cast, including Prithviraj Sukumaran, Tovino Thomas, Abhimanyu Singh, Indrajith Sukumaran, and Manju Warrier, adding to its star-studded appeal.
