Kaun Banega Crorepati 16: Amitabh Bachchan recalls the time he spent at legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray’s house

The latest episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati 16 saw Yubasana Kapas from Kolkata take the hot seat after successfully clearing the Fastest Finger First round. A Sociology student from Miranda House, Delhi, Yubasana captivated both the audience and host Amitabh Bachchan with her intellect, aspirations, and love for filmmaking.

During the conversation with Big B, Yubasana opened up about her deep passion for filmmaking. She has already directed short films that have won international awards. Impressed by her unique approach to storytelling, Amitabh Bachchan praised her, saying, “Many don’t think the way you do in today’s generation. It is very encouraging.”

Her first question for Rs 1,000 was: The number of days in which month changes in a leap year? She correctly answered February.

Big B, intrigued by her name, asked for its meaning. She explained that Yubasana is a Sanskrit word meaning Mahalakshmi. Amused, Big B quipped, “Mahalakshmi ji aayi hai lakshmi jeetne. Kya zarurat thi yaha aane, mahalakshmi hai aap.”

When asked about her cultural background, Yubasana shared that she had been associated with group theatre and learned music from a young age. Upon Big B’s request, she mesmerized everyone by singing a Rabindra Sangeet.

Her Super Sawaal question was: In which city’s Dashashwamedh Ghat, built in the 18th century, can you witness the Ganga Aarti? She correctly answered Varanasi and won the Dugnaastra lifeline.

Yubasana expressed her desire to create films that break social prejudices and caste barriers. Big B resonated with her vision and shared a personal anecdote about casteism, emphasizing the need to abolish such divisions. He recalled how, during a census, he insisted his caste be recorded as Indian, showcasing his firm stance on unity.

For Rs 80,000, Yubasana was asked: EnVision, a space mission set to launch in the 2030s, will investigate which planet? She used a lifeline and correctly answered Venus.

For Rs 3,20,000, she used the Video Call a Friend lifeline for the question: Which country has the highest number of active volcanoes? She correctly answered Indonesia.

When asked about her plans for the prize money, Yubasana shared that she wished to buy a laptop for her filmmaking and studies. She said, “It’s not like my parents can’t buy one for me, but I want to earn it myself.”

She also won Rs 50,000 in the Super Sandook round, regaining her Video Call a Friend lifeline.

For Rs 6,40,000, she used the lifeline again for the question: Which nawab began the construction of the Bara Imambara in Lucknow to provide jobs during a famine? She correctly answered Asaf-ud-Daula.

Yubasana asked Big B about his experience filming the monologue in Pink. He explained how the famous “No means No” dialogue was developed and how director Shoojit Sircar ensured an immersive experience using multiple cameras. He emphasized that cinema offers poetic justice in just three hours, which real life often lacks.

She also inquired about his experiences working with Satyajit Ray and Mrinal Sen. Big B expressed gratitude for working with industry legends, recalling his experience with Satyajit Ray. He narrated visiting Ray’s home, where everything was unorganized, yet Ray always found what he needed. He humorously compared it to Jaya Bachchan’s complaints about untidiness, using Ray as an example of genius thriving in chaos. Big B also mentioned providing commentary for one of Ray’s films and Jaya’s collaboration with him, highlighting Ray’s brilliance and warm hospitality.

Yubasana’s last question was: In an assembly bye-election in which state were VVPATs used for the first time? She planned to quit but guessed Sikkim, whereas the correct answer was Mizoram.

She took home Rs 6,40,000, leaving a lasting impression with her knowledge, confidence, and dreams of impactful storytelling. Her inspiring journey on Kaun Banega Crorepati proved that with passion and determination, the sky is the limit.
