Grammy-winning rapper Jay Rock, whose legal name is Johnny Reed McKinzie, is known for his collaborations with Kendrick Lamar. However, he recently made deadlines, but not for his music. Jay Rock landed into legal trouble after trying to trespass and flee the scene.
According to Daily Mail, the rapper was arrested on Thursday at around 6 pm in the Watts area. Los Angeles Police Department officers arrested the rapper after Jay Rock was caught trespassing and drinking in public near the Nickerson Gardens housing complex. He attempted to escape by running away from his car.
The police eventually caught up with the rapper and took him into custody. The officers then searched his vehicle and found a gun. The rapper was booked into the Los Angeles jail after 8 pm for felony firearm possession. He spent the night in jail.
The reports have revealed that Jay Rock spent his childhood in the same housing complex as Anthony Tiffith, the founder of Top Dawg Entertainment.
However, Jay Rock’s latest arrest wasn’t his first. He was previously detained for a shooting in his neighborhood in 2009. However, he was later found not guilty. He was also involved in a serious motorcycle accident in 2016 that broke his pelvis and leg, and he spent months recovering.

For the unversed, Jay Rock was part of a hip-hop group called Black Hippy, along with other famous rappers Ab-Soul, Kendrick Lamar, and ScHoolboy Q. They formed the group after signing with the record label Top Dawg Entertainment.
However, Black Hippy was disbanded after Kendrick Lamar left Top Dawg Entertainment but the members have continued to work together on solo projects.
