At a recent event in Chennai, director Mysskin took centre stage to deliver what many called an unforgettable hour-long masterclass on filmmaking. Aimed at aspiring artists seeking to carve a path in cinema, the session delved into the struggles and philosophies of storytelling.
However, Mysskin's shocking disclosure of the whole plot—including the heartbreaking conclusion—of his upcoming movie Train, which stars Vijay Sethupathi, was what really took everyone by surprise.
Fans and industry insiders had differing opinions about Mysskin's decision to reveal important plot points, despite the fact that his passionate speech was widely commended for its candour and wisdom. Throughout the speech, Mysskin emphasised his conviction that the audience's time and money should be respected, saying, “As a filmmaker, you need to respect the time and money of the audience who paid Rs 150 or more to watch the film.”
He went on to describe how his inspiration for Train stemmed from childhood memories and train journeys. “I have travelled by train at least 300-600 times… Think about it, and it feels like a monstrous worm carrying children in its belly… That’s how I felt when I was a child. This metaphor inspired me to make the film…”
Mysskin then detailed Vijay Sethupathi’s character arc: “The protagonist wants to die, he’s travelling towards death in disgust… He wants to visit his wife’s grave one last time to plant a sapling there before he dies. But a lot of things happen inside the stomach of this monster to make him forget his woes…”
The climax, as he shared, is a poignant revelation about life’s value: “The experience of his journey teaches him the value of life… that’s my climax.”
While many hailed the talk as “1 hour of therapy” and “pure genius,” others expressed concern over the spoiler-heavy approach. One fan joked, “Wake up babe, new mysskin yap dropped,” while another compared the storyline to A Man Called Otto. A particularly cheeky meme showed a producer reacting in dismay, captioned “Meanwhile producer Dhanu will be like.”
Train, backed by Kalaipuli S. Thanu’s V Creations, stars Vijay Sethupathi alongside Shruti Haasan, Nassar, Sampath Raj, and KS Ravikumar, and is already stirring buzz well ahead of its release.
