Ozzy Osbourne, the lead singer of popular band Black Sabbath, passed away on Tuesday, July 22. He was 76.
His family confirmed his death reports on Instagram. Sharing his photo from the stage, they penned in the caption, “It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning.”
The statement continued, “He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time. Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Aimee and Louis.”
He performed from a throne at the Black Sabbath farewell concert on July 5 in his hometown, Birmingham, England. It was his final concert and his first in 20 years with the band that made him a star.
Tributes started pouring on social media soon after the family revealed the news about his death.
Singer and songwriter Elton John took to his Instagram and shared a throwback picture with Ozzy and paid a tribute to him. He wrote, “So sad to hear the news of @ozzyosbourne passing away. He was a dear friend and a huge trailblazer who secured his place in the pantheon of rock gods - a true legend.”
He added, “He was also one of the funniest people I’ve ever met. I will miss him dearly. To Sharon and the family, I send my condolences and love. Elton xx.”
However, Jason Momoa, who hosted Black Sabbath’s final “Back to the Beginning” concert in early July, also bid a final goodbye to the singer. He wrote, “Love you @ozzyosbourne All my aloha @sharonosbourne and ohana. So grateful. RIP.”

He then went on to launch his solo career in 1978. His solo career was equally successful.
Ozzy Osbourne was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Grammys in 2019. He earned a total of five wins and 12 nominations.
He is survived by his wife Sharon and six children, three from each of his two marriages.
