Assam Election Results 2024 Highlights: INC's Gaurav Gogoi leading by over 1.27 lakh votes in Jorhat constituency

Here's what Assam Congress President Bhupen Borah said on the ongoing counting of votes for Lok Sabha Elections 2024.

"The results that are coming in the entire country and Assam, INDIA alliance and Congress have already achieved a moral victory. The game is still left. After 1-2 hours, INDIA alliance will be the biggest alliance. We will be successful in forming the government under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi. There has been a moral defeat of Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma. The Opposition is united to change the government. The people of Assam are against the BJP and communal politics. AIUDF will become a history today evening."

BJP is leading in nine seats, Congress in two, AGP in one, and UPPL in one. In Guwahati, Silchar, Sonitpur, Lakhimpur, and Darrang-Udalgiri, the BJP has leads of more over one lakh votes. With 1.8 lakh votes, a Union Minister from the previous government hopes to hold onto his seat in the Lok Sabha.

Regarding the Congress, Gaurav Gogoi and Pradyut Bordoloi are still extending their leads in Jorhant and Nagaon, respectively, while Rakibul Hussain, the candidate from Dubri, has increased his advantage by more than 4 lakh.

Leading companies in Barpeta and Kokrajhar, respectively, are AGP and UPPL.

In Dibrugarh, Sarbananda Sonowal is leading in Assam's Dibrugarh constituency, he is ahead by more than 1.41 lakh votes. His excellent position is highlighted by this noteworthy lead as the counting process proceeds.

Mohammed Badruddin Ajmal of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) is lagging behind in the Dhubri seat in Assam by a considerable margin of 186,317 votes. This significant lead is a turning moment in the race.

Congress’ former MP from Kaliabor Gaurav Gogoi is leading by a margin of 10,132 votes in Jorhant. He is pitted against Topon Kumar Gogoi of the BJP.

-- Currently, the BJP is leading in eight seats, including Guwahati, Dibrugarh, and Kaziranga. In Dibrugarh, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, who was part of the previous cabinet, is leading with 74,659 votes.

-- In Jorhat, Nagaon, Karimganj, and Dhubri, the Congress party continues to maintain its advantage. The well-liked Gaurav Gogoi is ahead of his closest competitor, Topon Kumar Gogoi, in Jorhat by almost 42,000 votes.

-- In Kokrajhar and Barpeta, AGP and UPPL are in the lead, respectively.

In the Jorhat Constituency, Gaurav Gogoi of the INC is leading by 4014 votes, according to the most recent data from the counting centre.

BJP’s Ranjit Dutta has secured a lead of over 27,862 votes against Congress’ Premlal Ganju in the early hours of counting.

At the moment, Deep Bayan from the Congress is lagging behind AGP representative Phani Bhusan Choudhury in Barpeta.In the Guwahati constituency, BJP candidate Bijuli Kalita Medhi is leading, followed by Congress candidate Mira Borthakur Goswami.

All the ROs have been asked to allow the polling agents and candidates to sit there so that the counting is conducted with transparency..."

Early data indicates that Congress' Rakibul Hussain is ahead in the Dhubri constituency. Kripanath Mallah of the BJP is now leading in the Karimganj constituency. Sarbananda Sonowal of the BJP is leading in the Dibrugarh Lok Sabha seat, while Gaurav Gogoi of Assam leads in the Jorhat. In Lakhimpur, Pradhan Baruah of the BJP leads.

In Sonitpur and Lakhimpur, respectively, BJP candidates Ranjit Dutta and Pradan Baruah appear to be leading, according to early indications. In Darrang-Udalgiri, the Congress is in the lead.

Leading from Dibrugarh is also Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

As per initial trends by ECI till 8.47 am, the BJP is leading on 42 seats, Congress leading on 17 seats, AAP leading on 4 seats, Samajwadi Party leading on 2 seats.

Lok Sabha Election Results 2024: "The counting process is underway at all the places. We have given strict instructions to all the DMs, SPs and COs (central observers) that the process of counting is done transparently and as per rulebook," says Chief Election Commission Rajiv Kumar.

The ruling BJP contested on 11 parliamentary constituencies, leaving two seats for its key ally, AGP, and one seat for UPPL. In the last Lok Sabha elections in 2019, BJP had won 9 seats, INC 3, AIUDF 1, and IND 1 in the state. In 2014, BJP had won 7 seats, INC 3, AIUDF 3, and IND 1.

Assam accounts for the largest share of Lok Sabha seats—14 of 25 Lok Sabha seats—in eight northeastern states. In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP and its allies in National Democratic Alliance and the North East Democratic Alliance won 19 seats and the Congress won only four—three in Assam and one in Meghalaya.

Some of the prominent faces contesting the Lok Sabha polls from Assam include former CM of Assam and BJP candidate from Dibrugarh Sarbananda Sonowal, Congress candidate Gaurav Gogoi (son of former CM of Assam Tarun Gogoi) from Jorhat, Phani Bhushan Choudhury of AGP-BJP, Deep Bayan of Congress and Manoranjan Talukdar of CPI(M).

The 14 Assamese seats that took part in the first three rounds of the Lok Sabha elections 2024 achieved a record high voter turnout of 81.56%, just shy of the previous peak attained five years earlier.

The following constituencies—Kaziranga, Sonitpur, Lakhimpur, Dibrugarh, Darrang-Udalguri, Diphu, Karimganj, Silchar, Dhubri, Kokrajhar, Barpeta, and Guwahati—are waiting to hear their final results on June 4.

In Assam, the BJP has nine Members of Parliament, but its allies the AGP and UPPL are not represented. In 2019, three seats were gained by the Congress and one by the AIUDF.
