Just two days before the Haryana assembly elections, former Sirsa MP and BJP leader Ashok Tanwar rejoined the Congress.
Tanwar had switched to the BJP in January 2024, praising the progress under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. Tanwar was tweeting in support of BJP candidates contesting the Haryana Assembly election on Thursday morning. An hour later, he was seen at the Congress rally with Rahul Gandhi in Mahindergarh.

He served as Haryana Congress chief from 2014 to 2019. In 2021, he joined the Trinamool Congress and switched to AAP the next year. Tanwar left AAP ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, opposing AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal's decision to ally with Congress.
Haryana Home Minister and BJP leader Anil Vij said, "Ashok Tanwar is a migratory bird. His move to the Congress is of no consequence to the BJP."
Campaigning for the Haryana elections will conclude on Thursday evening as the state gears up for polling on October 5. The election will be conducted in a single phase, covering all 90 assembly seats. The votes will be counted on October 8.
