The SAS Nagar administration on Friday issued a flood warning for Mohali after water discharge in the Ghaggar crossed 70,000 cusecs at 8 am. The administration advised residents of nine villages in the Dera Bassi subdivision to stay alert and be ready to move to safer ground if required.
According to The Indian Express, the tentative list, flagged by the district administration, includes Tiwana, Khajoor Mandi, Sadhanpur, Sarsini, Alamgir, Dangdhera, Mubarikpur, Mirpur, and Bakarpur. The advisory linked the spike to heavy rain in the catchment and the opening of Sukhna Lake gates.
Residents were urged to avoid riverbanks, move livestock to higher ground, and follow updates from control rooms. As per the report, villagers have been advised to keep essential documents and medicines readily available and to assist the elderly and children during any evacuation.

The administration said it will issue further instructions if the situation escalates. For updates, residents have been asked to rely on official channels and not to attempt crossings at inundated causeways.
The district administration has also shared helplines to facilitate the public—contact DC office control room at 0172-2219506, mobile at 76580-51209, and Dera Bassi at 01762-28322. As per the report, the Chandigarh administration has opened Sukhna’s floodgates multiple times to release excess water into the Ghaggar via the Sukhna choe.
Choke points such as the Mubarikpur causeway remain vulnerable, prompting traffic diversions in recent weeks, the report added. Residents living along the low-lying river edge near the causeway have previously reported water entering homes during sudden rises.
