Maruti Suzuki India will launch its first battery-electric model, the e Vitara, in India on December 2, 2025. The upcoming electric SUV marks the company's entry into the passenger electric vehicle (EV) segment. The model is already in production and is being exported overseas. The e Vitara launch date for the Indian market was recently confirmed.
The electric SUV is built on Suzuki's new Heartect-e architecture, a dedicated EV platform. It will be offered with two battery capacities -- 49kWh and 61kWh. The larger pack delivers a claimed Maruti Suzuki e Vitara range of over 500km on a single charge. The vehicle will be sold through Nexa outlets.
The expected Maruti Suzuki e Vitara price in India is around Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom), positioning it in the mid-size electric SUV category. It will compete with the Tata Curvv.ev, Hyundai Creta Electric, MG ZS EV, VinFast VF6 and Mahindra BE 6.
Developed as a global product, the e Vitara is manufactured exclusively at Maruti Suzuki's Hansalpur facility in Gujarat, which also acts as the export hub. Exports to Europe began in August 2025 across markets such as the UK, Germany, France, Norway, Denmark, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Sweden, Hungary, Iceland, Austria and Belgium. The model is expected to reach over 100 global markets, including Japan.
In exterior design, the electric SUV follows the Nexa Crafted Futurism theme. The styling includes polyhedral body surfaces, aerodynamic detailing and upright proportions. Key elements include 18-inch alloy wheels, matrix LED DRLs, LED projector headlamps and a sculpted front section. The cabin features a dual-screen layout with a 10.1-inch infotainment unit and a 10.25-inch digital cluster. Other features include ventilated front seats, a 10-way powered driver seat, a twin-deck centre console and ambient lighting.
Power comes from a permanent magnet synchronous motor producing up to 128kW and 192.5Nm. The electric SUV offers drive modes such as Eco, Normal, Sport and Snow, along with adjustable regenerative braking for one-pedal driving. Systems such as adaptive grille shutters and a thermal management setup are designed to maintain efficiency in temperatures ranging from -30°C to 60°C.
The structure uses over 50% advanced high-tensile steel. Safety equipment includes seven airbags, all-disc brakes, an electronic parking brake, a tyre pressure monitoring system, Level 2 ADAS and a reinforced battery protection frame.
Maruti Suzuki will support the rollout with a dedicated EV ecosystem. This includes home-charging solutions, DC fast-charging points at Nexa dealerships and a network of over 1,500 EV-ready service centres in 1,000 cities. Users can access the 'e for me' app to locate chargers, schedule charging sessions and manage payments.
