An earthquake of magnitude 6.8 on the Richter scale hit Tokyo today, reports CNBC-TV18 quoting Dow Jones. Post the earthquake, a tsunami warning has been issued for the Northeast coast of Japan.

There is also a possibility of a 50 centimeter tsunami predicted to hit Miyagi, the prefecture worst affected by the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami. However, there are no abnormalities at the Fukushima Nuclear plant due to this earthquake.

Japan is still trying to recover from the 9.0 magnitude earthquake and tsunami that devastated the country earlier this year.
