The power sector has been one of the biggest underperformers in recent times. The biggest indicator of a poor track record is their inability to meet targets on the power generation capacity additions. Variance with the target has been as high as 50% in the past.

Equipment shortages have been a significant reason for India missing its capacity addition targets.
